A Message From Father John

Dear Parish Family of St. Thomas, St. Mary and University of Connecticut -
In lieu of all that has been going on as a result of the coronavirus, I’m reaching out to all of you to reassure you that I have and will continue to pray for you, our parish, Church, Nation, and World. We find ourselves in a time of challenge and uncertainty we have never experienced before in our lifetimes. Yet as challenging and uncertain things might be, we have to realize and believe that God and Our Blessed Mother know what we are going through and are there for all of us to turn to.
I’m sure it was not an easy decision for our bishops to make in canceling all public Masses but I’m sure it was to keep everyone safe and to prevent the spread of the virus. Be assured as I’m fulfilling the obligations of the Mass intentions in private I will be praying for all of you and your loved ones for protection and safety. Also following Bishop Cote’s request St  Thomas and St. Mary will remain open during the day so that parishioners can stop by to pray, light a candle and make an act of Spiritual Communion.  Reconciliation will continue to be available at the usual times and churches but will be relocated to a larger place (probably the sacristy) for safety reasons.
I do and will continue to miss seeing all of you at Mass, meetings, and events, but I am trusting that this will be a temporary separation. In the meantime, Ernie is working on getting us to be able to stream the Masses so that you can view our Mass electronically. As always, I and the parish staff are here for you and we’re just a phone call or email away.  I’m also requesting that you continue your financial support even without Mass collections as the parish bills and expenses are still coming regularly and need to be paid. Thank you for your attention to this.
So until the celebration of public Mass is reinstated, please be safe and prudent and I’m looking forward to when we can all be together at Mass again.

Love and prayers,

Fr. John
